FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The château sits just outside Lanouaille, in the Dordogne, about an hour north-east of Périgueux. Limoges and Brive airports are each roughly an hour away by car. Bergerac is about ninety minutes, and Bordeaux around two hours. Guests travelling from Paris can also take the TGV to Limoges in about three hours, then drive the last stretch. Because the estate sits in open Périgord countryside, everyone needs a car or a transfer, so most couples arrange shuttles for the wedding day.

The estate seats up to 150 guests for a ceremony and dinner, and takes a little more for a standing cocktail. Accommodation is spread across three buildings: the château itself, the coach house and the cottage. Together they sleep around 40 people, so your closest family and wedding party stay on the estate. Everyone else books nearby in Lanouaille, Excideuil or Thiviers. Hire is exclusive, which means the grounds belong entirely to your celebration for the whole stay.

The château front, with its pale stone and tall shuttered windows, carries almost every wide frame of the day. Inside, the ground-floor reception rooms give high ceilings, antiques and generous window light. Outdoors, couples usually marry in the gardens, with the enclosed park and orchard behind them. Meanwhile the pool terrace and the open lawns work well for the looser afternoon hours. Furthermore, the Périgord countryside holds colour late into the evening, so portraits after dinner stay soft rather than harsh.

La Durantie asks for a minimum stay of three nights in high season, so most weddings here run as a long weekend rather than a single day. Consequently I usually cover two or three days: the welcome dinner as guests arrive, the wedding day in full, and the lunch or pool afternoon that follows. That rhythm suits the estate, since the best moments often happen away from the ceremony. Tell me your weekend plan and I will propose the coverage that fits.
